Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity dedicates 40th house

On Sunday, Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity dedicated it’s 40th build in a small celebration at the house on Lafayette Street. New owners, a mother and daughter – Edna Curnell and Shirely Sumrall – were present along with friends and Lowcountry Habitat volunteers.

The home is LowCountry Habitat for Humanity’s 40th build in northern Beaufort County since its inception in 1990 and there’s more to come. “It’s great to have land, families and ongoing fundraising efforts in line to keep right on building here in Pigeon Point and over at Mint Farm. It’s very exciting to see anLowcountry Habitat for Humanity dedicates 40th house empty lot transform into a family’s dream come true,” said Brenda Dooley, Lowcountry Habitat’s Executive Director.

Through donations of money and materials and volunteer labor, Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity was able to build this home and sell it at an affordable price. The new homeowners will purchase the home with a no-profit loan and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to build more Habitat houses for more families in need in northern Beaufort County.
