This weekend's Bands Brews & BBQ festival: All you need to know

It’s here! It’s time to shake off winter and get out and start celebrating the official arrival of the festival season across the Beaufort area with two days of fun today and Saturday on Paris Avenue in Port Royal with the annual installment of Bands Brews & BBQ.

With a sunny weekend in the forecast, the Port in Port Royal will be bustling all weekend with lots of live music, activities, good food and plenty of community camaraderie.

Just make sure you come hungry!

The first South Carolina BBQ Association sanctioned event is Friday night with the Wing Throw Down from 6 to 9 pm where you can sample wing recipes from participating cookers while enjoying live music from both the Sometimes Later Band and the Walker Harris Band, a Kids Fun Zone and more. You’ll find dozens of different wing recipes: some hot, some hotter, some not so hot, some tangy, some barbequed…perfect for everyone’s taste.

Saturday is the BBQ tasting day from noon to 4 p.m. with cook teams from across the Southeast serving their award-winning butts and competing for a variety of prizes, and some serious bragging rights.

It’s quite comparable to a BBQ lover’s paradise.

Four different bands will take over two different stages and providing the entertainment for the day and the kids can enjoy the Fun Zone, just for them. On stages for tthe weekend are Chris Jones, Sidestreet Walkers, and Frogmore Stu.

Awards will be presented on Saturday by sanctioned South Carolina BBQ Association judges.

The event benefits Friends of Caroline Hospice. General admission is available at the gate for $10 each day with children 12 and under free.

Please remember that the event is NOT on Paris Avenue as in previous years’ events. This year all activities will be taking place at the Port of Port Royal, so follow Paris Avenue all the way down.

See y’all there!!!
