Around Town: Things to do this weekend in Beaufort
Here’s some of what’s taking place in Beaufort the weekend of September 20th. Fall is in the air and and the weekend temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80′s with plenty of sun, which makes it a perfect weekend to enjoy Beaufort’s many options of outdoor activities.
Visit Hunting Island Beach and take in it’s natural beauty and a few waves too. With water temperatures at around 80°, it’s still a great time even though you’re not battling triple digit temperatures. Go ahead and take the boat out to the Beaufort Sandbar. Just build your Sandbar schedule around the local tide, pack the cooler heavy and enjoy your day!
Take some time from your busy schedule and stroll along a bustling Bay Street or thru Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Be a tourist in your own hometown and visit the Parris Island Museum, take a drive out to Land’s End Beach or The Sands in Port Royal. Enjoy our many important historical sites, or walk historic downtown Beaufort for part of an afternoon with some ice cream from Southern Sweets, a Beaufort tradition on a hot day.
If you’re looking for a local event, this is YOUR weekend. Of course the bustling Port Royal Farmers Market at the Naval Heritage Park on a Saturday morning is a must, and this weekend you can check out the Responsible Dog Ownership Day event hosted by the Beaufort Kennel Club right along side the pet friendly Farmers Market. The Market runs 8:30am to 12pm. Enjoy the area’s best selection of local produce, seafood, homemade artisan breads, cheeses, local honey and zillions of other things. With live music and a festive feel, it’s always a great spot to kick off your weekend.
If it’s live music you like, head on down to Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park on Saturday afternoon and follow the sound of live folk and bluegrass music where you’ll find Pickin’ By the River; an all acoustic open-jam that invites any and all musicians to join in, as long as they’re not playing the drums. It’s a great time listening to several musicians who have never played together improvise their way through the afternoon. Pickin’ By the River runs from Noon to 5:30pm.
Take a few hours and visit our neighbors in Yemassee or Hardeeville. They’re working hard putting on a Shrimp Festival and a Catfish Festival this weekend. Live music, rides, fireworks and parades can all be found in a 30 minute drive down the highway.
Get out and enjoy beautiful Beaufort. There’s plenty to do at our parks, at the beach, downtown or anywhere you look. You can check out our many fine golf courses or just get out and be social… and help boost the local economy. Check out the new Beaufort Flea Market near the Highway 21 Drive In and find something unique from any one of the nearly 200 vendors. Visit your favorite neighborhood sports bar and play some trivia, listen to a great local band or join in karaoke. If you want to see the weekend nightlife schedule, visit Beaufort After Dark.
Wrap up your weekend with Pet Friendly Beaufort’s Dine With Your Dog event on Panini’s River Deck in downtown . Bring your best friend and enjoy Panini’s while your companion enjoys their new Dog Menu right there next to you at the table. Bon Appetit!
