Hundreds rushed the water in the Pelican Plunge (w/video)
Hundreds of folks of all ages took the Pelican Plunge on Wednesday at Hunting Island State Park. New Year’s Day water temperatures hovering in the mid 50s along with air temps around 49°, didn’t deter many from the fun. Some participants ran in, and immediately ran back out of the water, while some went in for a second dip.
The afternoon’s festivities included a calypso band, lots of colorful and imaginative costumes…and a lot of fun. The event benefits the Discover Carolina program that brings classrooms into the State Park for hands on learning and is sponsored by Friends of Hunting Island.
