Beaufort dedicates its 300th Birthday Monument

The City of Beaufort held a wonderful ceremony on Sunday afternoon at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park to dedicate the monument celebrating Beaufort’s 300th birthday. The monument consists of bronze plaques laid in granite blocks within a circle of palmetto trees near the playground, and tells the story of important parts of the city’s history which compliments the monuments at the other end of the park, creating a walking history of Beaufort.

The new monument was paid for with proceeds from the Beaufort 300 campaign, which more than 300 businesses, organizations and people donated at least $300 each.  The benefactors names are on the monument.
