Dancing Dogs Yoga holds Community Yoga class for Gabbi

By Megan Howe |  On Sunday afternoon, 16 yogis in age ranging from 6 to 72 all came together for a Community Yoga class, led by Certified Baptiste Teacher, Shelley Lowther, owner of Dancing Dogs Yoga. The class was a special-donation class held in honor of a local dog named Gabbi who has captured our hearts.

Last Tuesday evening, a Beaufort County Animal Control officer escorted Gabbi and her owner to Sea Island Animal Hospital on Lady’s Island after the dog had been attacked by a larger dog. Weighing only 19 pounds and nearly full term pregnant with four pups, being dog-lovers we felt that Gabbi was in dire need of our assistance. Her injuries are extensive and will require several surgeries.  The owner surrendered the dog to Sea Island Animal Hospital and they now own Gabbi, but even at the hospital’s cost, the operations are going to be quire expensive.

Sea Island Animal Hospital has asked the community for donations to aid in Gabbi’s medical treatment.

After learning about Gabbi, Shelley quickly decided to help. She planned an all levels community yoga class and invited the local community to join her on the mat to raise funds for Gabbi. Shelley committed to donating $100 to the Gabbi Fund and asked others to give as well.

On Sunday, yogis of all ages joined together at Dancing Dogs Yoga in an intentional community in support of Gabbi. The class focus was ahimsa, which is a sanskrit term meaning to do no harm or non-violence. The room was filled with flowing breath, inspiration, and gratitude. Together, the Community and Dancing Dogs Yoga raised $264 for Gabbi and her pups.  For this, we are very proud.
