Free lunches for kids this Summer in Beaufort!
Beaufort County School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all eligible children free of charge.
In addition to the Beaufort County Library and YMCA locations, free meals also will be provided to students enrolled in summer camps operated by the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry, to students enrolled in Neighborhood Outreach Connection programs and to participants in programs operated by the St. Helena Migrant Camp and Island Recreation Center.
Acceptance and participation requirements for the Program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided, on a first come, first serve basis.
Through a partnership with the Beaufort County School District and the Beaufort County library system, Sodexo’s Lowcountry Cruzer food truck is serving free lunch to children under 18. The truck visits the three northern Beaufort County area libraries each day for about 45 minutes with operator Jovanna Griffin greeting each child with a healthy smile, and a healthy plate. Families are then able to sit at folding tables that are set up for lunchtime. The free lunch program is timed right along with the library’s summer reading program which draws hundreds of kids to each library location each summer season.
