Hunting Island celebrates Dr. Seuss' Birthday

By Ty Snowden | As a celebration of Dr. Seuss week, the Hunting Island Nature Center put together a great experience for all of us ‘local’ Seuss fans to attend on Saturday, Dr. Seuss’ 109th birthday. A variety of activities were available for children (and adults) to enjoy including Tuffula seed planting, scavenger hunts, word searches, crossword puzzles, word scrambles, coloring pages, pin the mustache on the Lorax, Dr. Seuss book readings, candy, cupcakes and of course, all the Nature Center’s animals!

Hunting Island’s very own Amanda, who dressed as Thing 1, said that they “hope to bring the event back again next year”. She insisted that even somebody my age was able to join in on the activities, because Dr. Seuss was for all ages. The busiest activity was the Lorax tree planting and definitely the activity table, which was set up to make birthday cards for Seuss himself.

At the climax of the event, the was about fifty people packed into the Nature Center, showing love and appreciation for the wonderful Dr. Seuss.
