LowCountry Habitat for Humanity Announces 3rd Annual Turkey Trot 5K
LowCountry Habitat is thrilled to announce that it is moving forward with its 3rd Annual Turkey Trot 5K held in downtown Beaufort at 8am on Thanksgiving morning.
With the health of our community, volunteers, staff and participants at the forefront of our decision to move forward, the Turkey Trot is limiting the participation for the in-person race to 250 participants to adhere to social distancing guidelines. This year, virtual registration is an option for those who don’t feel comfortable with coming out, so that they may also participate and contribute to the mission to end substandard housing in Beaufort.
The LowCountry Habitat Turkey Trot 5K will be held on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26th at 8am. The event features a professionally timed race on a USTF certified course. Participants will enjoy a run through Historic downtown Beaufort on Bay Street starting and finishing at Freedom Mall crossing the Woods Memorial Bridge down Meridian Road to Youmans Drive and double back the same route.
Strollers and leashed pets are welcome. You may even register your pet online for no cost when you signup.
This year, there will be some notable changes from previous year events including the request to wear a face covering at the starting line for the race, an increased area for the starting line to allow for additional social distancing, there will not be an awards ceremony at the event and participants are strongly encouraged pick up their packet before the event. The plan is to not allow race day registration or packet pick-up at the event. Although they will not be presented at the event, awards will be given to first place 5K race finishers in eight age group categories and first, second and third overall. These may be picked up at Grounded Running on Friday and Saturday following the event.
Executive Director, Jimmy Boozer said this about the event, “This event has quickly become a Beaufort Thanksgiving Tradition and we are thrilled to be able to continue this fun, family friendly event in a limited format. LowCountry Habitat takes the threat of the COVID 19 virus seriously and we are doing our best to insure a safe fun event for the Beaufort community to enjoy on Thanksgiving.”
Early registration is only $30 with discounts available for active duty military and groups of 4-10 people. Registration fee includes a long sleeve adult t-shirt while available.
