Southside Dog Park officially opens
By Amber Bonem | The long-awaited Southside Dog Park had its official grand opening on Saturday . This project was talked about 12 years ago and has finally come to fruition thanks to the hard work and dedication of our city and numerous volunteers.
Southside Dog Park boasts a 1.07 acre area for large dogs and a .48 acre area for small dogs. Fully fenced and surrounded by beautiful oaks and Spanish moss, the park is an idyllic place for humans and dogs alike. Through generous donations, benches, water fountains, trash receptacles and doggy waste bags and containers are provided for comfort and cleanliness.
The event was attended by Beaufort’s Mayor Billy Keyserling and several other city officials. Dozens of people and dogs came out to celebrate and to meet several pet oriented vendors.
Folks enjoyed door prizes, food cooked by our local fire fighters and lots of play time for the dogs.
Vendors coming out to meet folks and support the new park included Sea Island Animal Hospital, Kat’s Dogs, Annie B Bed and Biscuit, Beaufort Dog and the Friends of Southside Park.
If you would like to volunteer to help with the upkeep of the park, e-mail Barbara Chemsak at email@example.com and if you would like to make a financial contribution to the upkeep of the park or new installments of the park, please contact City of Beaufort, Pride of Place at 843.525.7070.
