2013 Water Festival to add DragonBoat Beaufort Race Day event
The 58th Annual Beaufort Water Festival, in partnership with DragonBoat Beaufort, has announced that it is introducing DragonBoat Beaufort Race Day as a new event at the Festival, and taking place on Saturday, July 20, 2013. The event will feature several dozen twenty-plus member teams formed especially for the event by local companies, associations and friends. Established teams from throughout the US are also eligible to enter with proceeds supporting both the 58th Annual Water Festival and DragonBoat Beaufort’s cancer survivor missions.
“The Beaufort Water Festival organization is partnering with DragonBoat Beaufort to assist in bringing this new event to the area”, says 58th Annual Water Festival Commodore Dan Thompson. “Both organizations are working closely together to make this event a huge success. It’s fun, it’s exciting and it’s all in!”
Dragon boat racing is the fastest growing international water sport. Beaufort formed its own team, DragonBoat Beaufort, in February of 2012, practicing from Port Royal Landing Marina and entering competitive events in Charleston, Atlanta and St. John’s Island.
The team’s mission is to promote physical and mental wellness among cancer survivors, supporters and our community through dragon boat training and competition. The organization offers a positive community model of courage, determination and team cooperation on the water, and makes local cancer patients a focus of its outreach on land.
