A great day for the Beaufort River Swim

Saturday morning at Port Royal Landing Marina 132 brave swimmers turned out to support the YMCA of Beaufort County and participate in the Beaufort River Swim.  With air temps near 80 degrees by the time folks took to the water, it was an early-morning cooling off for many when the air-horn sounded marking the start of the three-mile open water test of skill that sent participants swimming from Port Royal Landing Marina to the downtown Beaufort Marina.

This year’s Beaufort River Swim winners are:
Women
Jessie Cuda
Camile Felix
Bethany Byrne

Men
James Hammond
Alex Reamy
Ryan Laban

But the big winner is the YMCA of Beaufort County’s Learn to Swim program.
The 2011 swim raised $2,000, providing scholarships for children who otherwise may not have access to swim lessons.
Event organizer Rick Simonds says they hoped to attract 125 swimmers this year and raise even more money, allowing the Y to increase the availability of swim instruction for kids in our area.
