Alzheimer's Family Services to host PROJECT LIFESAVER demonstration

In cooperation with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s office, Alzheimer’s Family Services of Greater Beaufort (AFSGB) will host a free to the public demonstration of Project Lifesaver on Wednesday, November 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the Jasmine room at the Quality Inn at 2001 Boundary St. in Beaufort.

Project LifeSaver is a program designed to quickly locate and rescue “at risk” individuals with cognitive disorders who are at constant risk to the life threatening behavior of wandering including those with Alzheimer’s Disease, Autism and Down Syndrome.

Persons participating in Project Lifesaver wear a small personal transmitter around the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal. If an enrolled client goes missing, the caregiver notifies their local Project Lifesaver agency, and a trained emergency team responds to the wanderer’s area. Most who wander are found within a few miles from home, and search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes. Recover times for clients average 30 minutes-95% less time than standard operations. The program has over 1,200 participating agencies throughout 46 states in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, and has performed 2,601 searches in the last 13 years with no serious injuries or fatalities ever reported.

All Alzheimer’s patient caregiver’s and others are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be provided. For more information please call AFSGB at 843-521-9190 or visit www.afsgb.org
