Beaufort High names new principal

Corey Murphy has been selected to replace Dr. Dan Durbin on a permanent basis as the principal at Beaufort High School.  Murphy is currently the principal at Great Falls High School in the Chester County School District in Great Falls, SC.   Murphy graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in biology, and earned a master’s degree in education leadership from USC.  Currently a U.S. Army Reserve captain, he recently returned home from a 15 month deployment to Afghanistan.

According to a Beaufort County School District news release, during Murphy’s tenure as principal of Great Falls High School the school’s on time graduation rate went from 74 percent to 83 percent, a marked improvement.  Great Falls High School had a 2011 enrollment of 288 students in grades 9-12, considerably smaller than Beaufort High School’s 2011 enrollment of 1,594.
