Bridges Preparatory School Block Party / Shrimp & Grits Cook-Off, Saturday, March 9th

Ameris Bank is the title sponsor of this event and has been deemed Captain of the Ship for their generous contribution.

Ameris Bank donated $3,000 to the Bridges Preparatory School PTO for the Sixth Annual Bridges Block Party / Shrimp and Grits Cook-off.

“This donation will do big things for Bridges Preparatory School, and combined with other donations received during their annual fundraiser, will help the school purchase a new activity bus for their students,” said Amy Painton of the Bridges Prep PTO.

The bus will open new possibilities for small group field trips, student community projects, sporting events and more.

Taylor Hunt with Bridges PTO said the Ameris donation, along with other sponsorships and donations, will help push the fast-growing state charter school forward. “We are so thankful for the dedication of the Ameris leadership and our other sponsors to our students at Bridges. This contribution will help us fulfill our mission as a school.”

The Sixth Annual Bridges Prep Block Party Shrimp and Grits Cook-Off presented by Ameris Bank is set for Saturday, March 9 on Paris Avenue in Port Royal from noon to 5 p.m.

The event features local chefs competing for top honors with their version of the Lowcountry favorite, shrimp and grits.

The winning recipe will receive the People’s Choice Award for the best shrimp and grits in the Lowcountry. The community-wide event also includes live music by Broke Locals, a Kids Zone, an array of food trucks and unique arts and crafts available for all to enjoy. For the thrill- seeker in the family, we will also have a 100-foot fun slide and more, Painton said.

Bridges Block Party Shrimp and Grits Cook-off is the key fundraising event for the fast-growing and academically strong state charter school in Beaufort. In mid-2017, Bridges was named one of South Carolina’s top three charter schools for its academics and a School of Distinction by the South Carolina Public Charter School District.

Bridges Preparatory School, serving grades K-12 in 2019-2020, is open to all area students and there isn’t any tuition. Construction is underway on the permanent campus facility in Port Royal off Robert Smalls Parkway.

As a state charter school, Bridges Preparatory School is open to all students in the Low country without tuition. Bridges Prep follows the Paideia principles of education: All children can learn and therefore they all deserve the same quality of schooling, not just the same quantity.
