'Earthy' water taste coming from Beaufort's taps
Operational issues at the Chelsea Water Treatment Plant are causing an earthy taste and odor in some tap water, according to the Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority. You may have noticed it in your tap water during the past several weeks. BJWSA adjusted its treatment and maintenance procedures to correct the issue.
Only a slight odor remains in water leaving the plant, though customers may notice the odor for two more weeks.
The water is safe to drink and use as normal.
“We apologize for this taste and odor event. BJWSA strives to provide the highest possible quality water to all of its customers, and we know that right now we have to do better. We have identified improvements we can make in our treatment process, and we are working as fast as we can to implement them. The water leaving the plant is improving every day and should be back to normal soon,” said Ed Saxon, BJWSA’s General Manager. “We appreciate the patience of our customers,” he added.
