Free parking comes to downtown marina lot for holidays
Beaufort City Council has approved the return of free holiday parking this upcoming Holiday season, although it’s changed-up from previous years. Free parking will be offered all day long in the Beaufort Downtown Marina parking lot starting Thanksgiving Day.
The program runs through New Year’s Day and is certainly a big help to downtown’s retailers who count on the holidays as a big part of their year in terms of sales.
During the free parking period, the downtown marina’s 167 total spaces will be available at no cost. Cars will still be ticketed if they park in designated spaces for buses and boat trailers in the marina lot.
Many of the merchants we’ve talked to had some input of their own. [Most] of what we heard was positive.
“I hope that folks will take advantage of the free marina parking and walk all the way to the far end of Bay Street to visit the business furthest away from the free lot,” said one business owner. “We love to see them on our end of Bay Street too.”
The free holiday parking will be offered Monday through Saturday during the holiday season. (Sundays are free, regardless)
Regular downtown parking enforcement remains in place along all city streets with meters. Enforcement is the usual; Monday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm.
