Habersham Harvest Festival not your average hay ride
This weekend’s Habersham Harvest Festival is far from your average hay ride. Now in its 8th year, the marketplace goes all out to provide the best in Lowcountry fall fun and draws thousands to its annual fall spectacular. The event is a lively street festival featuring a vintage fair theme with rides, family activities, tons of food and artisan crafts set against the backdrop of timeless southern architecture on Market Street.
For everyone….it’s just plain fun.
Following record crowds in 2015, someone had the awesome idea to expand it to a three day event beginning this Friday, October 21st at 7pm and running Saturday the 22nd from 10am to 4pm and Sunday the 23rd from Noon to 4pm.
On Friday evening, it’s Wine & Wheel; an adult-only night which gives couples the chance to ride the ferris wheel under the stars in a romantic setting.
On Saturday and Sunday, kids (and adults too, because there’s still a kid in each of us) can enjoy tons of games and carnival-style rides including a three story high ferris wheel that is brought in as the centerpiece for the weekend. There’s a petting zoo, hay rides through the undeveloped countryside, kiddie swings, vintage fair games, a mechanical shark, a vintage carousel (a merry-go-round to some folks), horse & carriage rides, pumpkin bowling and even a shooting gallery.
The foodie in you will enjoy a Shrimp & Grits station, a gourmet hot dog station, food trucks, homemade BBQ, baked goods and lots more.
Sunday also brings the annual Pickle Eating Contest for the kids and the adults. (we’ve won it twice personally!)
“We’re really looking forward to this weekend’s event,” said organizer Jodie Miller of Plum Productions. “It’s one of our favorite events of the year celebrating one of our favorite times of the year.”
Also, members of the Boys & Girls Club of Beaufort get to ride for free in continuing partnership with Habersham. “Habersham is very kind and very supportive of the Boys & Girls Club here in Beaufort and wanted to do something special for the kids,” Miller added.
It almost actually feels like your at the amusement park. It’s everything that’s awesome about fall here in the Lowcountry.
We’ll see you this weekend. Happy fall y’all!
