Halloween 2020: What's Happening Around Town
Halloween 2020 is sure to be unique no matter what – and we aren’t just talking about the full moon coming Saturday Night.
As COVID-19 precautions are still a fixture of everyday life, our community has made the effort to still hold the events that set Beaufort on the map, this time with our safety and health at the forefront.
Here are a few events happening around town that prove Beaufort’s still got the Halloween spirit going full-tilt:
Costume + Carving Contests
The City of Beaufort has spearheaded the move for virtual events this Halloween, including two costume contests.
Sponsored by the Marine Federal Credit Union, you’re invited to dress up and send in a snap of your Halloween costume to events@cityofbeaufort.org. Send in your picture by 8PM on Sunday, November 1, 2020 for your chance to enter – People’s Choice voting will take place from November 2 to November 6.
And for our Furry Friends, the Sea Island Carriage Co. will be sponsoring a pet costume contest! All pets are welcome to participate, and entries must be submitted by 8PM on Sunday, November 1, 2020 to events@cityofbeaufort.org.
Also through the City of Beaufort is a pumpkin carving contest. Sponsored by Lowes, the rules follow the guidelines of the costume contest, with the submission deadline at 8PM on Sunday, November 1, 2020 to events@cityofbeaufort.org.
Note that all the contests hosted by the City have categories for kids ages newborn to 12, kids ages 13 to 17 and adults. The pumpkin carving contest also has a category for family submissions.
Most importantly remember that when it comes to Halloween, MORE IS MORE!
Trunk or Treat
Rounding out the City’s list of events is a drive through trunk or treat event hosted at four of Beaufort’s local parks. Families are welcome to visit the following parks for trick or treat to-go bags filled with Halloween treats and regalia:
- Henry C, Chambers Waterfront Park marina parking lot area – Enter parking lot via Bay Street and Newcastle). Sponsored by The Beaufort Water Festival.
- Washington Street Park – 1003 Washington Street. Sponsored by StephenMurray for Mayor.
- Southside Park – Southside Park Loop. Sponsored by Modern Jewelers.
- Pigeon Point Park – 1521 Pigeon Point Road. Sponsored by Oyster Cay Collection.
Corn Mazes + Hayrides
Dempsey Farms comes to the rescue this Halloween, offering hayrides, a corn maze and their seasonal pumpkin patch and U-pick. Stop by between 10 to 4 – the weather calls for the perfect Fall day!
A Night at the Drive In
The Highway 21 Drive-in is holding a double feature of Halloween classics – for our families, Monsters, Inc. and Hocus Pocus are on deck; for those who are looking for a bit more gore, Halloween I and II are also on screen.
