What’s sweeter than a fresh picked local strawberry? The experience and memories made as friends and families fill up their baskets at Dempsey Farms U-Pick.

Dempsey Farms is a working family farm growing what they sell for the last sixty plus years! For a farm fresh experience, head down Sea Islands Parkway/Hwy 21 towards Hunting Island and you’ll find Dempsey Farms U-Pick on your right. It’s strawberry season now until May 29. Pick-up a basket at the cashier tent and say hello to the Dempsey Family. They’ll point you in the right direction on where to find the best picks. Walking into the fields, you’ll likely bump into a smiling face that’ll give you their secret on the best row. Spot a good one? Get close to the earth and give the berry a turn to be sure it’s fully ripened. Snap the vine. Admire the shape, seeds, and inhale the sweet scent. That’s Spring right there. Hold off on eating it!

Take a break and make new friends. It’s easy to do here in the South. This is Ellerbe. Today is her first strawberry picking with parents Whiney and Ryan Grove! She’s wearing a very special bonnet passed down from her Momma. The Grove’s moved to Beaufort last fall and look forward to many more pickings at Dempsey Farms. Green beans start in May!
