The Gallery, original contemporary art
We recently had the pleasure of touring The Gallery, and it was quite a treat!
As one of the premier art galleries in Beaufort, The Gallery exhibits one of the largest collections of contemporary art in the Southeast. Stepping through their doors, one can not help but be consumed by the myriad of colors and styles represented within it’s walls.
The Gallery offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, welcoming not only the seasoned collector, but also those newer collectors looking for that perfect first piece. Whether you collect oil, acrylics, sculpture, glass, textiles, photography, wood, ceramics, or jewelry, The Gallery proudly exhibits it all!!
With more than 60 local, regional, and national artists exhibiting at The Gallery, the caliber of work in their collection is truly amazing.
Opening in 2000, owner Deanna Bowdish sees the gallery not only as a retail entity, but as an educational space and environment. The Gallery hosts critique groups, artists’ lectures, and demonstrations, all of which are open to the public.
It’s location is of historical signifigance as well. Located at 802 Bay Street in downtown Beaufort, The Gallery is housed in the former home of Captain Francis Saltus. Built in 1796, it is the tallest known surviving single family tabby structure in the area.
Do yourself a favor, if you haven’t yet, check this place out! It’s really, well…cool!
