The South Carolina Open Championship hits Dataw Island
The South Carolina Open hits beautiful Dataw Island with a 36-hole stroke play event on the Cotton Dyke course. Open to all amateurs and PGA Professionals in North and South Carolina, the South Carolina Open will draw 156 competitors to Dataw Island Club on April 22-23, 2015.
Each year, the South Carolina Open is hosted by a championship-caliber course, with the goal being to not only showcase the talented PGA Professionals and amateurs of both states, but to also put on a display of the beauty of South Carolina from the Lowcountry, to the Upstate, to the Grand Strand.
A series of dikes, created to generate more planting ground for 18th century plantation cotton fields, influenced the Cotton Dike course by Tom Fazio. Fazio is one of the country’s finest
golf course designers known for his waterfront challenges. Jenkins Creek flows by nearly half of the 18 holes, between emerald fields and fairways. The course underwent a major renovation in 2011 and since has regained its distinction as one of the best courses in the Lowcountry. Cotton Dike plays 6,787 yards from the Championship Tees with a course rating of 72.9 and slope of 136.
The staffs of the Carolinas PGA Section and Dataw Island Club look forward to putting on a premier championship to entertain the field, promote local event partners, and benefit the surrounding community.
