By Libby Ricardo | The Beaufort Film Society hosted a meet and greet event at the Albergotti Grill, replete with delicious hor d’ouevres, good company and big announcements regarding the upcoming year.

Prior to the event, Uyen K. Le, producer of Basement Bob and legal counsel for RareForm Pictures, led a workshop for artists on how to legally protect their artwork.  This is the first of many workshops that Le and her husband, VW Scheich, plan to host in the Beaufort area.  The couple has recently relocated to the Lowcountry in preparation for the filming of the feature Basement Bob, and have since been a fixture not only at Beaufort Film Society events but also throughout the community.

For more information on upcoming events, visit basementbobthemovie.com and join the mailing list.  You can also lend your support to the first feature film to be shot in Beaufort in over 15 years by pre-ordering the movie.

The Pat Conroy at 70 Festival will be held October 29-31. Tickets went on sale this morning at the USCB Center for the Arts.  Ellen Malphrus, Associate Professor of English at USCB and author of “Untying the Moon,” a forthcoming novel out in October of 2015, was on hand to promote the events in honor of the Lowcountry’s “Prince of Titles.”

The Beaufort International Film Festival was also delighted to announce that for the first time this year, there will be Encore Screenings of the

winning BIFF 2016 film at the Park Plaza Cinema on Hilton Head Island on Sunday, February 14th.  The Film Festival is gearing up for its tenth year of bringing quality film makers from across the world to beautiful Beaufort by the bay.  Make sure to mark your calendar for February 10-14, as this year’s landmark offerings will not disappoint.

The Beaufort International Film Festival continues to attract talent not just locally, but globally. It has hosted many talented people in the film industry including Andie MacDowell, recipient of the Inaugural Spirit & Pride of South Carolina Award last year. It has also attracted the likes of filmmakers VW Scheich, Uyen K. Le and Gary Weeks to film in this beautiful part of the country.

It can be easy to forget that the tremendous contributions of BIFF and of the Beaufort Film Society are dependent on community engagement.  The membership base is vital to the continuation of this non-profits mission to provide the Beaufort community with “entertainment, outreach, and education through film”.  If you are interested in supporting this worthwhile organization, visit www.beaufortfilmsociety.org.  Members receive a plethora of perks not only during the festival but throughout the year.
