Hunting Island offering Junior Ranger Program
What’s a great way to get the kids interested in preserving and protecting our local environment? Turn them into Junior Park Rangers at Hunting Island. Children love the outdoors and Hunting Island State Park wants to make sure that local kids know all about our local resources and the importance that the environment around us affects our daily lives with the Junior Ranger Program.
The program was formed with one main goal in mind: getting children outdoors.
Geared towards children from 6 to 9 years old, but open to children of all ages, the program offers a variety of activities designed to get kids outdoors while capturing their imagination and attention and educating them about the state’s wonderful natural and cultural resources inspiring them to care for these resources for years to come. As a Junior Ranger, kids play an important role in keeping Hunting Island State Park a special place for friends and family, and for all the animals and plants that live there, too.
Activities for Junior Rangers include interviewing a Park Ranger, learning plant and animal species, picking up trash along the beach, campground and park, attending special programs and lots more. Each Junior Ranger is given a Junior Ranger notebook, flashlight, ranger hat, ranger badge and certificate too. (picture one very proud 7 year old!) There’s even an awards ceremony at program’s end.
Seriously, mom and dad…how cool is this?
