Port Royal's Farmer's Market...a local gem
A must-do as a local or visitor is a trip on Saturday morning to the tasty Port Royal Farmer’s Market.
With spring inching its way into the area, and the market going to its regular hours in a few short weeks, we thought that taking a look at what this gem has to offer would be a good idea, as we’re getting excited about the upcoming season, and know you are too. The Beaufort area simply adores its local agricultural industry, and its support of its locally thriving farmer’s markets is proof.
In full swing, the market in Port Royal runs Saturdays from 8:30 until 12:30 at the Naval Heritage Park on Ribaut Road starting mid-April, and you can find live music, flowers, organic vegetables, herbs, local seafood, plants, boiled peanuts, homemade doggie treats, honey, farm-fresh eggs, cheeses & prepared foods and of course the area’s best in fresh local produce, every Saturday of the season.
Over the past few years at the Port Royal Farmer’s Market, we’ve come across the best local honey, stone ground grits, jellies, jams, tomato pies, and some sturdy vegetable plants to take home and start your own garden. The fresh local produce from Beaufort’s local farmers includes lettuces, spinach, carrots, potatoes, beets, radishes, onions, watermelon and cantaloupe, peaches, strawberries, greens, turnips, and cukes.
