StreetMusic on Paris: Fun for all
By Hannah Morris | Saturday evening brought the return of StreetMusic on Paris in the heart of Port Royal. Music lovers were treated to local favorites, the Groovetones, for the second time on the street after their performance at the Soft Shell Crab Festival only a few short weeks ago.
The Groovetones have been performing in the area consistently for quite some time. Eat Sleep Play Beaufort talked with Tony Reyes, the bassist responsible for bringing incredible amounts of soul to the group, on Saturday before the show.
We asked Tony what his and the band’s favorite parts of Beaufort are, to which he replied “We love the history here in Beaufort, and the people are absolutely wonderful and a lot of fun!” When asked specifically about their opinion of the StreetMusic series, he said “The Beaufort Arts Council does a great job bringing in cultural events to the area giving us a fantastic awareness of the world around us without having to venture far out of the city. The StreetMusic events bring a diversity of music out to the streets and allow everyone a chance to get down and have a good time.”
The Groovetones know how to draw a crowd, and even more so, how to throw a party! With such a love for Beaufort and the people in the area, it is no surprise that everyone who came out to boogie Saturday night had a blast.
StreetMusic is a gift to the community from the Town of Port Royal and produced by ARTworks. 4 concerts are held from May – June and 4 concerts from August – September. StreetMusic on Paris Avenue is committed to providing quality national and international touring musicians of all genres for FREE in the heart of Port Royal, SC.
Keep an eye out for the events coming up in the next few weeks, and if you didn’t make it to Saturday’s StreetMusic, be sure to hit it up next time with Angela Easterling and The Beguilers on Saturday May 26th! Here’s a link to the full schedule.
