Wayback Burgers a great addition to Beaufort scene
By Molly Ingram | I stopped in the fairly new Wayback Burgers on Boundary Street for a late lunch on Friday. I will admit that a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and mayo might be my favorite food in the whole world so I have been looking forward to trying the new local spot.
I know I should lead with some thoughts on their burgers but I have to first wax poetic about the coffee milkshake I ordered to go with the burger and fries. It was BIG. It was served in the same aluminum container it was made in. It had a lot of ice cream. And it was good. Really good.
Then came the burger and fries. Yum. I got a nice burger with grilled onions and a substantial portion of fries to go along with it. I skipped the lettuce and tomato today because I was wearing a white shirt and tomatoes somehow have a way of ending up on me. Funny how that happens. Spaghetti sauce too. But I digress.
I spoke with several patrons as they left the restaurant and asked if they enjoyed their meal and if this was their first time there. Of the three people I asked, they had all been there before and one person admitted to coming twice a week since they opened. Now that is a pretty good recommendation.
What I personally liked best was the combination of fast food and table service. Everything you order is delivered right to your table. I didn’t have to worry about carrying my purse and phone while I trudged up to the front to get my meal.
And even better than that was the overall attitude of the employees who work there. When I approached the front door, an employee putting in new trash can liners opened the door for me with a cheery “Welcome to Wayback.” I found the counter help to be courteous, helpful and basically nice young men and women. The restaurant was clean, had nice bathrooms, was bright and that goes a long way in determining if I will go back.
Was it cheap? No, but it didn’t break the bank either. So, all in all, I am glad that Wayback decided to call Beaufort home.
